Tamil Nadu holidays

Chennai, Pondicherry, Kanyakumari, Ooty, Tanjore, Mahabalipuram, Madurai and the Meenakshi Temple

Tamil Nadu, is the eleventh largest state in India by area and the seventh most populous state.

Extending to the southern tip of India the land of the Tamils is rich in history.  It is a land where traditions and culture blend and continue to live in harmony. The State abounds in ancient monuments and temples, each with its own story of religious, artistic and cultural accomplishment.

There is much to do and see. The Coromandel Coast stretches for nearly a 1000 kms along the Bay of Bengal and has many ideal locations for sun and surf. Explore old colonial Pondicherry, visit modern Madras [now Chennai], marvel at the Chettinad mansions. Travel inland to Madurai, home of South India’s largest temple and explore the the hill stations of Ooty and Coonor, high in the Western Ghats.

The climate in south India shows little seasonal variation and Tamil Nadu stays hot for most of the year. Tamil Nadu is heavily dependent on the NW monsoon season which is at its height between August and September.  The best time to visit Tamil Nadu for a holiday is the period between October and May.

There are some truly marvellous hotels to enjoy and on our travels we have visited many including: the ultra stylish Rajakkad Estate, the beautiful art-deco mansion Visilam, Pondicherry’s gorgeous Maison Perumal and the quirky, artistic Dune Eco Village. The Taj Fisherman’s Cove provides understated luxury, particularly in the seashell cottages and its proximity to the airport makes it a great place to end a Tamil Nadu holiday.

Superb Tamil Nadu experience

Overall, the holiday was superb. The upgrade to the sea view cottage at Fisherman’s Cove was definitely well worth the money and we would recommend this accommodation. The food and service, as before were 1st class. Visalam at Chettinad was absolutely wonderful. The menu was quite limited but the service was very good. Lakeside was another wonderful place. We would definitely recommend this resort. It is owned by an English couple. The cottages are very spacious and comfortable and the views are amazing.
